Ghost Lake

Ghost Lake is a 372 acre lake located in Sawyer County. It has a maximum depth of 12 feet.

  • Maximum Depth: 12′
  • Mean Depth: 5′
  • Fishery: Muskie, Walleye, Large Mouth Bass, Panfish

Part of Northern Wisconsin’s Quiet Lakes near Hayward, WI – (Lost Land, Teal & Ghost Lakes) three sparkling gems set deep in the unspoiled wilderness of the Chequamegon National Forest and blessed with a 10 mph speed limit (no motor size limit) prohibiting waterskiing and jet skiing, making these lakes unique to the Midwest and Wisconsin’s Northwoods.

  • In 1962 a 10 mph speed limit was enacted, prohibiting water skiing and jet skiing.
  • Zoning requires 200-feet of lake shore per home rather than the usual 100-feet.
  • 3 generation resorters and homeowners actively protect this unspoiled environment.

Ghost Lake’s name derived from an over-served logger who thought the wild wandering flowage disappeared in a ghostly fog. Ghost Lake CCC Camp received the important commission by Roosevelt to replant the ravaged forest he then designated as the Chequamegon National Forest. The seclusion of the lakes made a perfect hideout for Chicago gangsters who built a club house on Green Point, the only green left after the logging.

Fish these Class ‘A’ waters knowing your chances of catching a legal musky are great on the Quiet Lakes.
